Hack Your Morning Series: It's Time To Wake Up
Welcome to our new #HackYourMorning series that's geared toward helping you get your day started better. It's been proven over and over that the way you start your day has a measurable effect on how your day will go. Your morning routine can trigger several pivotal things in your mind- your sense of accomplishment, your perceived happiness, and your sense of productivity. And when you can trigger these emotions very early in your day, you are much more likely to carry that momentum into every other task and interaction you engage in throughout the rest of the day.
Today we're going to kick this off with the preparation that you do the night before. "We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our preparation." So with that in mind, lets put some intention into last 10 minutes before you go to bed. If you think about it, we shut our computers down so thoughtfully, but we don't do much to relax our minds when it comes to settling down for the night.
Grab a notebook and write down 3 things that happened today that made today great. Yes, do it on paper. I know, "I'll just make a note in my iPhone" sounds pretty easy. But it's not the same. Write it down. With a pen. On paper.
Then write down 2 things that would have made today even better.
When you are ready to go to bed, lie down and think about 3 things that you are thankful for. It can be anything you like. Just focus for a few minutes on gratitude for things in your life. You woke up today, and that's a pretty great thing. So even if there is a lot of junk going on, you're still here to live it again. And that's pretty powerful.
If you're someone who likes more structure, there is a great book called The Five Minute Journal. It gives some good questions and prompts as well as having inspiring messages throughout. The book just makes it easy. I have used this, and it is a fantastic way to keep it neatly logged.
And that's it! Super simple. Take 10 minutes at the end of your day and start to make your mornings better.
