Hi.

Keep Moving Forward

We all struggle from time to time. We all go through phases where we don’t do what we know we should do. I know I’ve got several areas in my life that I have been lax on. Where I haven’t been taking my own advice. And the biggest hurdle to get back on track, for me, doesn’t come in the form of anything outside myself. It’s really quite simple. It’s an admission of where I am and making the conscious choice to be different.

I’m sitting in a ski condo on a guy’s trip and I’m feeling the effects of not being on a consistent workout routine and not eating what I should be eating. And the effects are real world to my performance on my snowboard. Combine that with the altitude that I’m not acclimated to and I’ll admit that I’m struggling a little bit. It’s funny- I can feel myself getting stronger because I was in that poor of shape coming into this.

So this is a wake-up call for me. And my change in habits won’t wait until I get home. They can start now and I can begin seeing the effects quickly. For starters I’m, as of right now I’m getting back on my low carb diet. And I’ll be tracking everything with the MyFitnessPal app on my iPhone. I will be limiting my carbs to 5% (21 grams), protein to 25% (104 grams) and fat to 70% (129 grams). I know from past experience that this diet works well for me. I also know that I will feel the results nearly immediately.

The next step will be to get back into working out on a regular basis. I was doing really well last summer/fall with cycling and I was feeling better and better. Then the cold came. And I can blame my lack of exercise on that, but the reality is that I didn’t prepare well enough and put in place an alternative plan. And I’ve got it easy- I’m a 502 Fit Pass member as well as a metro YMCA member. I just need to use them. My next blog post will show you what my workout routine will be.
